Q

Why are mid term elections significant?

A

results in ;
- major decline in power for pres (arguably a referendum on the presidency, especially on Trump labelled “character of the country” , repudiation of Trump in 2018 mid term elections= Democrats take over House control but senate remained Republican , probs due to widespread view that he had been the cause of politically motivated hate crimes and attacks such as the synagogue attack the week before the election and the mail bombs carried out by radical republican supporters= punishment by public on Trump

  • can lead to legislative gridlock between pres. and congress (Obama’s loss of House to Democrats in 2010 midterm elections and loss of democrat controlled Senate in 2014 mid terms = congress repeatedly blocked obama’s agenda = 16 day federal govt, shutdown in 2013
