Civil liberty
Freedom to think and act without government interference.
Declaration of rights
A states constitution which is is similar to the bill of rights
Censorship
Banning offensive or alarming information
Probable cause
Strong reason to think that the person or property was involved in a crime.
Indictment
A formal accustom initiating a criminal case, presented by a grand jury and usually required for felonies and other serious crimes.
Establishment clause
Refers to the separation of church and state
Freedom of assembly
Guarantees the right of citizens to join and form new groups which promote new political or social ideas.

Protects the rights of Americans to own guns and weapons.

Individual has the right to remain silent so they do not criminals themselves, and cannot be held as a witness against oneself.
Double jeopardy
Individual cannot be charged for the same crime twice.

Must follow the course of the law to deprive an individual life, liberty or property.

Punishment must fit the crime. Cannot set an excessive bail for a crime.
Nineteenth amendment
Gave women the right to vote
26th amendment
Gave young adults 18 years and older, the right to vote.
23rd amendment
Gave residents of the District of Columbia the right to vote.
