Acute management of variceal haemorrhage

A
  • Resuscitation (ABCDE)
  • Blood, FFP, Vit K, platelets
    (activate major haemorrhage protocol)
  • Terlipressin
  • prophylactic IV Abx
  • endoscopy for band ligation or
    Sengstaken-Blakemore tube if uncontrolled haemorrhage
  • Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPSS) if above measures fail
