Dx for superficial thrombophlebitis
Duplex ultrasound can be a clinical Dx, R/O Factor V Leiden.
Worse with walking and elevation of legs

Angiography (preferred) or duplex ultrasound
What is stasis dermatits?
Brown pigmentation and thickening of the skin associated with Venous insufficiency
Thickened nails
PAD
Factor V Leiden
Superficial Thrombophlebitis
Palpable cord
Superficial Thrombophlebitis
Ulcers and rash at lateral malleolus
PAD
Tx for Superficial Thrombophlebitis?
Xa band if recent surgery. Extremity elevation, warm compresses, normal daily activity, NSAIDs, elastic support compression stockings. Bed rest if severe.

Stasis dermatitis
Venous insufficiency
Erythema in legs with dependency

Normal skin temp
Venous insufficiency
Cool or cold skin

Thin shiny skin with loss of hair
PAD
What is leg dependency?
When legs are in active and sitting still at rest (prolonged sitting or standing)
Pallor
PAD
Worse with prolonged standing or sitting (worsens with leg dependency)
Venous insufficiency

Dx for venous insufficiency
Trendelenberg test and/or ultrasound
Levido Reticularis (mottled skin)

Cyanotic legs with dependency (sitting still or at rest)
Venous insufficiency
Minimal to no leg edema
PAD
Tx for venous insufficiency?
Periods of leg elevation, elastic compression stockings,
avoid prolonged periods of standing or sitting. Patient should exercise regularly.
