Vascular Surgery Flashcards
(12 cards)
How do you calculate ABPI?
Lower limb systolic pressure divided by highest upper systolic limb pressure
What does ABPI 1.2 or greater indicate?
Vessel calcification
What is a normal ABPI?
1-1.2
How would you manage ABPI 0.5-0.8?
Risk factor management
How would you manage ABPI 0.3-0.5?
Duplex scanning to delineate lesions
Compression bandaging contraindicated
How would you manage ABPI <0.3?
Urgent detailed imaging
Describe the Stanford classification for aortic dissection
A - ascending aorta
B - descending aorta
Describe the DeBakey classification
I - Ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending aorta
II - Ascending aorta only
III - Descending aorta distal to left subclavian artery
How are aortic dissections managed?
Beta blockers - aim HR 60-80 and SBP 100-120
Aortic root replacement for type A dissections
What is a Marjolin’s ulcer?
SCC which occurs at site of chronic inflammation - usually on lower limb
What is the treatment for Raynaud’s disease?
Calcium channel blockers
What is a Gritti Stokes amputation?
Through the knee preserving the patella to cover the stump
