Visual Approach Slope Indicator Systems (VASIS)
A
● VASIS is a generic term referring to different approach slope indicators (VASI, AVASI, PAPI, APAPI).
● Consists of a series of lights visible from approximately 4NM.
● Normally situated only on the left side of the runway.
● Designed to provide visual indications of the desired approach slope to the touchdown zone (usually 3°).
● Provides obstacle clearance to at least 6° on either side of the extended runway centreline out to 7.5 km (4.1NM) from runway threshold
