Vasomotor Control Flashcards
(5 cards)
Chemoreceptors
Detect changes in CO2 and O2 level in the blood.
+CO2 during excersise
-O2 during excersise
Baroreceptors
Detect changes in blood pressure.
+blood pressure during excersise
-blood pressure at rest
VCC (Vasomotor Control Centre)
Responds to the information sent by chemo/baro receptors to either increase or decrease blood flow to the non-essential organs and working muscles.
Non-essential organs
Increased sympathetic stimulation of arterioles pre-capillary sphincters to non-essential organs.
Causes vasoconstriction of arterioles and pre-capillary sphincters to non-essential organs.
Decreased blood flow to non-essential organs.
Working muscles
Decreased sympathetic stimulation of arterioles and pre-capillary sphincters to working muscles.
Causes vasodilation of arterioles and pre-capillary sphincters to working muscles.
Increasing blood flow to working muscles.
