Answer-A. HPV
Verruca vulgaris (most common variety of wart which involves the hands and fingers) is caused by HPV 2 (mc)
Verruca plantaris is caused by HPV 1 and ano-genital wart or condyloma acuminata is caused by HPV6, 11.
The commonest venereal disease in India is A. Gonorrhea B. Syphilis C. Chancroid D. LGV
Answer- A. Gonorrhea
Note in US, UK & other developed countries, gonorrhoea is the second most common genital or sexually transmitted disease after chlamydia trachomatis.
Gonorrhea is caused by neisseria gonorrhea, gram negative, aerobic, nonmotile, nonsporing diplo/monococci.
LGV is caused by A. Chlamydia trachomatis B. Hemphilus ducreyi C. HTLV Type II D. Donovanosis granulomatis
Answer-A. Chlamydia trachomatis
Chancre redux is a clinical feature of A. Early relapsing syphilis B. Late syphilis C. Chancroid D. Recurrent herpes simplex infection
Answer- A. Early relapsing syphilis
Recurrence of chancre in its original place due to relapse in early syphilis is called chancre redux
Donovanosis/ granuloma venereum is caused by A. Calymatobacterium granulomatis B. T. pertenue C. Chlamydia trachomatis D. H. ducreyi
Answer- A. Calymatobacterium granulomatis
Reliable skin test for chancroid detection A. Skin test B. Biopsy C. Gram stained smear D. Clinical examination
Answer- C. Gram stained smear
Drug of choice for syphilis in pregnant woman A. Azithromycin B. Penicillin C. Tetracycline D. Ceftriaxone
Answer- B. Penicillin
Penicillin is the only recommended agent for treatment of syphilis in pregnancy. If patient has documented penicillin allergy, desensitization and penicillin therapy should be given.
A 19 year old male develops a painless penile ulcers 9 days after sexual intercourse with a professional sex worker, likely diagnosis is A. Chancroid B. Herpes C. Chancre D. Traumatic ulcer
Answer- C. Chancre
Sabre tibia A. Scurvy B. Rickets C. Leprosy D. Syphilis
Answer - D. Syphilis
Drug of choice for Granuloma venereum A. Sulphonamides B. Streptomycin C. Penicillin D. Erythromycin E. Gentamycin
Answer- D. Erythromycin
Drug of choice is Azithromycin > Erythromycin (both can be used safely in pregnancy) Doxycycline, tetracycline, > cotrimoxazole > aminoglycoside
Genital warts are most commonly caused by which of the following serotypes of HPV A. HPV 16 B. HPV 6 C. HPV 18 D. HPV 33
Answer-B. HPV 6
Note HPV 11 also causes genital warts (condyloma acuminate)
The main feature of gonorrhea is A. Purulent discharge per urethra B. Inguinal adenitis C. Ulcer over glans penis D. Rashes
Answer- A. Purulent discharge per urethra
Genital ulcer is seen in all except A. Granuloma inguinale B. Syphilis C. LGV D. Donovanosis
Answer-C. LGV
NOTE - LGV is asymptomatic or no genital ulcer is seen..if present it is painless and non bleeding ulcer with painful matted lymph nodes, also called bubo formation. Groove’s sign (enlarged LN on both sides of inguinal ligament) present
It is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, TI,II,III.
Drug of choice - Doxycycline/tetracycline or minocycline/ erythromycine > azithromycin
Pseudobubo is seen in A. Chancroid B. LGV C. Donovanosis D. Syphilis
Answer- C. Donovanosis
Note - Pseudobubo is seen with painless bleeding ulcer incase of Donovanosis. Causative organism is Calymatobacterium granulomatis (Klebsiella granulomatis)
Diagnosed by microscopy by demonstrating Donovan bodies, safety pin appearance. treatment of choice is Azithromycin > erythromycin, doxy/tetracycline, cotrimoxazole> amino glycoside
Chancroid is caused by A. Hemophilus ducreyi B. Hemophilus vaginalis C. Trachoma virus D. Treponema pallidum
Answer- A. Hemophilis ducreyi
Chancroid is also caused by Herpes hominis virus
C/F - Painful, Bleeding, nonindurated ulcer and fluctuant suppurative painful lymphadenopathy. It is diagnosed by Gram staining. Drug of choice - Azithromycin/ceftriazone/ ciprofloxacin or erythromycin for 7 days;
Hutchinson’s triad includes all of the following except
A. Associated with congenital syphilis
B. Notched incissor teeth
C. Nerve deafness
D. Interstitial keratitis with saber skin
E. Associated with CVS anomalies
Answer- E. Associated with CVS anomalies
Hutchinson's triad - 1. Interstitial keratitis 2. 8th nerve deafness 3. Hutchinson's teeth - pegged central upper incisors it is seen in late congenital syphilis
other features of late congenital syphilis are -
- Sabre tibia
- Saddle nose
- Mulberry molars
- Bulldog jaws
A man having multiple painful, indurated, undermined, sloughed edged glans which occurred 5 days after exposures; most likely diagnosis is A. Chancroid B. Primary chancre C. Herpes simplex D. LGV
Answer- A. Chancroid

Herpes simplex can also cause tender lesion but edges are erythematous.
LGV causes also variable lesion with elevated, round or oval edges.
Bubos with multiple discharging sinuses into inguinal lymph nodes are A. Chancroid B. Granuloma inguinale C. LGV D. Syphilis
Answer- C. LGV
