1
Q

What is the frequency range for VHF

A

108- 117.95 MHz

2
Q

What is the frequency range for a terminal VOR

A

108-111.95 MHz

3
Q

What is the frequency range for a en route VOR

A

112 - 117.95 MHz

4
Q

Where is variation applied for VHF

A

At the beacon

5
Q

What is a CVOR

A

Conventional VOR

variable phase is amplitude modulated

Signal strongest when a/c is pointing directly at beacon
= when antenna is pointing towards a/c

6
Q

What is DVOR

A

More accurate than CVOR

less susceptible to site errors

Better for use in confined areas

Variable phase is frequency modulated

7
Q

What concept for VOR work on

A

Phase comparison

8
Q

What is the VOR self checking for

A

Beating indie remains +- 1°

Signal strength has not dropped more than 15%

If any conditions haven’t been met then VOR stops ident and shuts down

9
Q

What is the VOR cone of confusion

A

No less than 40° from the horizontal

10
Q

What are the 3 operational types of VOR

A

En route VOR

Terminal VOR (TVOR)

Rest VOR (VOT)

If on test will see TST instead of ident

Can’t use while on test

VOR can transmit ATIS

11
Q

What aircraft equipment is required for a VOR

A

Antenna

VOR receiver / control unit

Indicator system;

  • RMI = radio magnetic indicator (similar to ADF
  • OMI = monk bearing indicator
  • HSI = horizontal situation indicator
12
Q

On a OBI what does 1 dash represent

A

2° deviation from the selected radial

13
Q

What is the equation to find the range of the VOR

A

1.23 x ((squareroot a/c height)+(VOR height))

Range is proportional to power of transmitted signal

14
Q

What is the accuracy required of a VOR

A

+/- 5°

This is made up of

+/- 1 ° transmitter error
+/- 1° propagation error
+/- 3° airborne equipment error

15
Q

What is the accuracy you must fly within for a VOR

A

+/- 5° of radial

Half scale deflection

16
Q

If 2 VORS are used for the centre of a NM airway what is the max distance between them

A

110nm

17
Q

What is scalloping (VOR)

A

Caused by reflection and refraction of the signal
