What does HDMI stand for?

What does HDCP do?
Allows a device to validate, making sure both devices are authorised to receive signal

Type A (regular connector), Type C (mini) and Type D (micro)

What advantages do DP have over HDMI?
HDMI and DP have the same capabilities

What does DVI stand for?
Digital video interface
Why was DVI developed?
To support both analogue and digital outputs.
How many types of DVI cables are there?
- DVI-A, DVI-D and DVI-I
What does VGA stand for?
Video Graphics Array
What port does VGA use?
15 pin standard analogue video interface port
What do pins do on a VGA port?
Each pin controls different parts of signal e.g. R G and B, as well as horizontal and vertical cross sections.
What is thunderbolt?
Acts like a display interface and can do data transfer (similar to DP or HDMI)
How many versions of thunderbolt are there?

What can thunderbolt 1 and 2 do?
Used connector similar to a mini DP. Backwards compatible with DP. The only way to tell thunderbolt and DP apart is if it has a lightning bolt next to it.
What can Thunderbolt 3 do?
Can use the same connecter as USB-C. Looks like USB. Compatible with USB-C. USB-C does not support thunderbolt 3, but thunderbolt 3 supports USB-C. Max length is 6ft.
How fast is thunderbolt 3?
Speeds up to 40 Gbps
What is thunderbolt 3 used for?
Storage devices due to high transfer speeds.
