Viral Disease Patterns Flashcards
(9 cards)
what is incubation period?
time period netwene viral exposure and onset of illness (symptoms becoming apparent
describe different types if incubation periodss
Subacute sclerosing Panencephalitis measles - reare complication 2-6 years after infection. very long incubation

what is Generation time?
gneration time- the time period between viral exposure and invidiaul become infectious to other-
generation time is shorter than incubation time and before the onset of illness
what is R0?
Reproducitve number
the number of subsequent infections in a ssuceptible populations caused by a viral illness in one indivudal during its infective period
Rubella , measles, mumops all have very high R0

acute infections disease pattern?
what are sublincial infections (give example of one prominent)
describe persistnet and chronic pattern of disease - give example?
what are latent infections?
acute infection followed by a perisistne latent infeciton- virus lay dorment in host cell
Chicken pox—> shingles
HSV1- cold sores
descirbe slow progressive disease pattern
virus repliates at normal rate- but disease takes many years to manifest itslef can be infective or non infective
SSPE- non infective complication of measles (subaciute sclerosing pancencphatit SSPE) - fatal
HIV 1- infectious
also Prion illness CJD (NOT virus)
