-modern Florence nightingale
-had an admiration to Florence Nightingale as her theory is somehow a continuation of Nightingale’s environmental theory
She define Nursing as….
assisting individuals in activities that would contribute to their health
focus is on
the individual person is a whole, complete and independent being.
WHAT IS NURSING?
Nursing is assisting the individual, sick or well in the
performance of those activities contributing to health or its
recovery (or peaceful death) that he would perform unaided
if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge.

PHYSIOLOGICAL, SPIRITUAL AND MORAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, SOCIOLOGICAL
PHYSIOLOGICAL
- Breathe normally
- Move and maintain desirable 3.posture maintain body temperature
ex: checking ventilation and warming depending on the needs of patient
- eat and drink adequately
- sleep and rest
- keep the body cleaned and well-groomed
- eliminate body wastes
- select suitable clothes
- avoid dangers in the environment or injuring others
ex: mentally challenged patients, they are isolated or nurses use restraints sometimes to avoid hurting themselves and other people
SPIRITUAL AND MORAL
-a most neglected aspect of nursing care
-nurses are not only meant to nurse the physical body
-the body has a spirit not just a body
- worship according to one’s faith
ex: respecting patients beliefs
PSYCHOLOGICAL
- Communicate with others in expressing emotion, needs, fears, or opinions
- Learn, discover or satisfy the curiosity that leads to the normal development and health and use of available health facility
SOCIOLOGICAL
- Work in such a way that there is a sense of accomplishment
- Play or participate in various forms of recreation
