What are the main
symptoms of Measles?
The main symptoms of measles are a fever and a red skin rash

The virus is spread by the inhalation of droplets from coughs and sneezes

Measles is rare in the uk as a result of improved living conditions and a vaccination programme for children

with?
Many people do not realise they are infected with HIV as it only causes a mild flu like illness to begin with
How does the HIV virus cause
damage? How does it lead to AIDS?
HIV virus attacks the immune cells and after the initial mild ilness it remains hidden. It damages the immune sustem so badly it can no longer deal with infectjons at this point AIDS has been developed

HIV is spread by direct sexual contact and exchange of body fluids such as blood, it can also be passed from mother ti child in breast milk

There is no cure for HIV and no vaccine agaisnt it

Tobacco Mosaic Virus?
It affects around 150 species of plants including tomato and tobacco plants
Why is it called a ‘mosaic’ virus?
It causes a distinctive mosaic pattern of discolouration on the leaves as the virus destroys its cells
How is TMV spread?
Tmv is spread by contact between diseased plant material and healthy plants, insects act as vectors.
How is TMV treated?
There is no treatment but farmers now grow TMV resistent plants
What are Salmonella and where are they found?
Salmonella are bacteria that live in the guts of many different animals, they can be found in raw meat, poultry and eggs
What are the symptoms of salmonella infection?
Fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea
How can salmonella infection be prevented?
In the Uk poultry are vaccinated against salmonella, preventing food poisoning
What is Gonorrhoea?
Gonorrhoea is a sexualy transmitted disease
