viruses and cancer Flashcards
(7 cards)
what virus does not casue cancer
HIV
of viruses HPV, retrovirus, HCV, HBV
what is direct and indirect?
direct= retrovirus, HPV
indirect= retrovirus, HCV, HBV, HIV
HPV (human papillomavirus)
what kind of cancer?
how do genes E6 and E7 work to induce HPV
-function of E2
-what kind of vaccination is used?
cervical cancer more prevelnt in females
E6= inhibits p53 and causes loss in cell cycle regulation
E7= pRB retroblastoma mediated deregulation of cell cycle
E2= stops E6 and E7
vaccination= gardasil 9
retrovirus 3 mechanisms
-do they carry oncogone
-how it acts on host gene
1) tranducing (animal only)
2) cis activiating (animal only)
3) trans- activity (human)
1) contains oncogone, replaces viral gene with oncogone. gene tranfer
2) no oncogone, activates adjacent proto-oncogone
3) no oncogone. HTLV-1 turned on.
activates via viral proteins e.g.
tax transcriptional activator= activates virus but also activates host factors in cells that drive cancer.
what kind of cancer does hepatitis B and C casue
liver cancer
viruses that cause cancer directly or indirectly
directly=HPV
indirectly= hepatitis virus, HIV
viruses which are associated with what cancer
1) EBV (herpes virus)
2) HTLV-1
1) stomach
2) leukaemia and lymphoma
