Provide privacy
Introduce yourself
Wash hands
Verify patient
Verify allergies

Pulse of lower than 60
What should you look for when checking pulse
Rate, rhythm (pace), and quality (amplitude/strength)
Rythym- regular, irregular
Strength- absent, weak, normal, boudning
Respiration
Inhaling and exhaling.
Count by rise and fall of chest.
Don’t let patient know you are counting
What are you looking for when counting respiration
Rate and depth
Depth- shallow, normal, deep
How can you position patient to see chest rise and fall
Put hand near chest or abs
Point of Maximum impulse
Apical pulse.
Located at 5th intercostal space, midcovicular left side.
