Smallest particle of an element that has the properties of that element
Subatomic Particles
Parts of an atom, including protons, electrons, and neutrons
Molecules
Particle composed of two or more joined atoms

Metabolism
The chemical reactions in cells that use or release energy
Homeostasis
State of equilibrium in which the internal environment of the body remains in the normal range
Homeostatic Mechanism
Process used to maintain a normal internal environment in the body
Receptors
Specialized cells that provide information about the environment. Also, cell surface structures that bind particular molecules, called ligands, there by transmitting a signal into the cell.
