Annihilation
Annihilation – complete destruction or obliteration.
(E.g. “The threat of global annihilation.”)
Perturbed
Perturbed – anxious, concerned, unsettled, upset
(E.g. “She didn’t seem perturbed about the noises around her.”)
Incensed
Incensed – very angry, enraged
(Latin: incensum = something burnt)
(E.g. “Ben glared back at him, incensed.”)
Indignant
Indignant – anger or annoyance at what is perceived as unfair treatment
(“He was indignant at being the object of suspicion.”)
Acrimonious
Acrimonious – angry & bitter
(E.g. “An acrimonious dispute about wages.”)
Hypochondriac
Hypochondriac – person abnormally anxious about health
(E.g. “She’s a bit of a hypochondriac - always looking up her minor illnesses in a medical book.”)

Siege – military operation where enemy surrounds a town with aim of compelling those inside to surrender

Imagination – mind’s ability for creativity or resourcefulness, OR forming new ideas, images or concepts not present to the senses
(E.g. “She’d never been blessed with a vivid imagination.”)
Fantasy
Fantasy – ability or activity of imagining impossible or improbable things
(E.g. “His researches had moved into the realms of fantasy.”)

Stolid – calm, showing little emotion, dependable
Dependable – trustworthy, reliable
(E.g. His facial features suggested a stolid character.)
Composed – calm, controlled feelings or expression
Incredulous
Incredulous – unwilling to believe, or trust
(Latin: in = not + credulus = believing)
Amiable
Amiable – friendly, pleasant, tender, gentle manner
(E.d. “The amiable young man greeted me enthusiastically.”)

Tactful – skill & sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues
