A

performer hired on a daily basis, rather than on a longer term contract.

The amount of time a Talent's face shows up on screen.

Mark
A mark is where the Talent needs to stand, or arrive at a certain time. When the talent stands in one spot, walks across the room, and then stops in another place- he/she walked from one mark to another mark. They are usually identified by pieces of tape on the floor.

Pantomime
what background talent typically will do on-set, all the action of acting, but without the sound.

to work out the camera angles for the Director of Photography, someone stands in for the main actors.

Soft tape
a cloth tape measure, usually used to measure focus on the Talent's face.

anyone who is ready to appear in front of camera. Extras are usually instructed to arrive this way.

Coverage
term used to film additional materials after the "Master Shot" is filmed. Can consist of new camera angles or tighter shots.

Screen Test
a filmed performance of a short scene to confirm how a Talent performs on camera.

Sides
a half-sized script that contains only the scenes being shot that day.

Slate
a small clipboard used to mark and identify shots on film for editing, also the process of verbal identification by a performer in a taped audition. (Also referred to as Sticks.)

a commercial message, usually booked at random.

framing of a shot with little or no space around the central figure or features, really close up.
