Vocab Flashcards
(20 cards)
Matrix
A rectangle array of numbers or other mathematical objects written within brackets.
Exponential function
The general form y=ab^x
Logarithmic function
The inverse of and exponential function. The logarithmic function y=LOGyAX is defined to be equivalent to the exponential equation y=a^y.
Rational function
A rational function f(x) can be written as f(x)=p(x)/q(x) where p(X)+q(X) are polynomial functions.
Conic sections
An intersection of a plane and a cone.
Circle
Set of all point such that all points are at a constant distance (radius) from the center.
Parabola
Set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a fixed line(directrix) and a fixed point (focus)
Ellipse
Set of all pints such that the sum of distances from p to two fixed points(foci) is constant
Hyperbola
Set of points such that the difference between the distances from p and the foci is constant.
Arithmetic sequence
In it, the difference between consecutive terms is constant.
Arithmetic series
A series whose terms form an arithmetic sequence
Geometric sequence
In it, the ratio of consecutive terms is constant
Geometric series
The sum of all terms in a geometric sequence
Normal distribution
Shows data that vary randomly from the mean in a pattern of a bell-shaped curve. 1sd: 68% 2sd: 95% 3sd:99%
Outlier
Data value that is substantially different from the other values in a data set. Q1-1.5iqr q3-1.5iqr
Standard deviation
Measure of how much the values in a data set vary from the mean
Margin of error
A sample proportion should be reported with and estimate of error, allowing for, in case of miscalculation or change in circumstance
Radian
One is the measure of a central angle of a circle the intercepts an arc equal in length the the radios of the circle
Angle of elevation
Angle between the horizontal and the line of sight to an object above the horizontal
Angle of depression
Angle between the horizontal and the line of sight to an object beneath the horizontal.
