Normal Curve Equivalent
Measures where a single test taker’s score falls on a normally distributed set of test scores
Standard Deviation
A calculated figure that measures the variation of other test scores from the mean test score
Standard Error of Measurement
An estimate that represents the likelihood of an individual test-taker receiving a similar score on an equidifficult test
P-Value
A measure that represents the difficulty of a specific test item based on the percentage of test takers who responded to it correctly
Scaled Score
A raw score that has been converted or adjusted to fit on a new standardized scale
Item Response Theory
An approach to scoring test taker’s performance that takes the individual’s raw score, as well as the difficulty and guessability of test items into account
Grade-Equivalent
A number showing the estimated grade level (in decimal form) at which a student performed on a specific test
Item-Discrimination Index
A numerical value that contrasts the proportion of high-scoring individuals to that of low-scoring individuals on a given test
