Voice Flashcards
(18 cards)
What is a period
Time it takes to complete one cycle of vibration.
Frequency
Number of cycles per second
Perceived as pitch
Amplitude
Magnitude of vibration determined by the displacement of air particles
Perceived as loudness
Relationship of period and frequency
As period decreases, frequency increases
Complex waveforms
Combination of sine wave of different frequencies and amplitude phases.
Fundamental frequency
Lowest tone in a harmonic series,
First harmonic
Lowest repeating waveform pattern in a complex waveform
Harmonics of a human voice
Whole number multiples of the fundamental frequency
Spectrum
Horizontal axis= frequency
Vertical axis = amplitude
Spectrogram
Horizontal= time Vertical = frequency
Wave form
Horizontal= time Vertical = amplitude
Signal to noise ratio
Relative intensity of the signal compared with the background noise.
Jitter
Short term vibration in frequency, cycle to cycle
Shimmer
Short term variation in amplitude
Cycle to cycle
Indirect laryngoscopy
Used with mirror to see Color and if edges straight
Direct laryngoscopy
VF vibrations cycles
Do a biopsy of vocal folds
Laryngeal videostroboscopy
Strobe light to slow down visually VF vibration
Flexible endoscope
Goes thru the nose, regular speech, but not as clear picture
Rigid scope
Solid rod in mouth, unable to talk around, but a better clearer picture
