Volume 1, Unit 4 Flashcards
(48 cards)
What is reliability centered maintenance (RCM)?
System used to ensure equipment meets its life expectancy at a minimum cost
(reliability of equipment)
What is the goal of reliability centered maintenance?
Optimize engine time on wing through disciplined analysis and structured process to identify cost-effective and technically sound maintenance policies
What are the two classifications of failures?
- Potential
2. Functional
What is the process of trying to match modules with approximately the same amount of time left on them when assembling engines?
Module Matching
What is the Engine Trending and Diagnostics (ET&D) program?
Program that integrates hardware, software, maintenance, and diagnostic process to manage engine health
List the purposes of Engine Trending and Diagnostics
- Predict, detect, and conduct preemptive maintenance analysis of adverse trends
- Forecast time and material requirements days or weeks in advance to minimize engine not mission capable status (ENMCS) rates and maintenance man hours
- Reduce ship flow and increase serviceable spare engine levels
- Reduce life cycle costs and improve reliability by improved measurement of life used in critical components
- Increase average engine time on wing by eliminating time based removals
What is the primary goal of the Engine Trending and Diagnostics program?
Prevent damage to engines by prediction of performance degradation
(Preventative maintenance actions)
How do flight-line personnel use ET&D data?
Collect the data and transfer it to base engine maintenance shop for analysis
How do depot and product center engineers and technicians utilize the ET&D program?
Develop engine trend data and provide support to field users
What is the ET&D program designed to determine?
If an aircraft needs maintenance before the next flight/ next engine change
What are Centralized Repair Facilities (CRFs) designed for and what type of support do they provide?
A logistics option for combatant commanders to exercise in order to consolidate and provide intermediate-level maintenance support of war fighters
(Deployed backshop)
What does the centralized rotatable pool (CRP) provide?
sufficient numbers to maximize timely placement of serviceable assets where they are needed most, in lieu of waiting for the same items to be received, repaired, and shipped back to the originating supported unit.
Operating centralized rotatable pools rules should be mutually agreed upon by
Appropriate lead commanders
How are CIRF assets accounted for and tracked?
Production supervisors maintain accountability and tracking of CRF assets by using the AF portal to report daily status of these assets in accordance with prescribed instructions
What is depot maintenance?
maintenance performed on material requiring overhauling or rebuilding of parts, assemblies, subassemblies, and end items
Why does depot maintenance stock serviceable equipment?
Because it has more extensive repair facilities than those at base level
What type of maintenance does depot perform?
disassemblies, inspections, repairs, replacements, assembly/testing of components, engines and engine systems.
From where does the AF obtain depot maintenance?
- Organic Department of Defense Facilities
2. Private Sector Contractors
List the most common forms of depot level assistance
- Depot field teams
2. Contract field teams
What’s the primary objective of Comprehensive Engine Management System (CEMS)?
Obtain accurate info on the stats, condition, and location of engines, modules, gearbox’s in the AF inventory
What is used to collect and store info provided by different engine reporting systems?
Comprehensive engine maintenance systems (CEMS)
What are the primary objectives if the engine reporting system?
Maintaining timely and accurate engine inventories ans well s surveillance of base repair, transportation, overhaul, and historical data in order to forecast funding and replacement requirments
What section monitors engine removals and replacements and tracks components at the base level?
Base level engine maintenance
What are some of the functions of CEMS?
- Provides for AF readiness through the collection of info. which, when accumulated, idicates the overall view of capability
- Answer the question of how many engines and components are available at ny one time
- Provides for cost–effective use of available resources, since it allows components and engines to be shifted from places of excess to high-need areas
