W Flashcards
(34 cards)
Air pressure
The force exerted on a surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to earth
Tropical
A region of climate that is frost free with tempture high enough to supplie plant grouth
Celsius
Scale based on 0 for the freezing point of water and 100 for the booiling point of water
Cumulus cloud
Large white puffy clouds that generlly apear during fair weather
Cirrus cloud
Short detached hair like clouds found at high altitudes
Thermomether
An instrument that measures the temp
Tropical depprison
A tropical cyclone with maxium sustained winds of 38mph
Ocean current
The continuouses predictable direction movment of seawater driven by gravity wind
Dew point
The temp the air needs to be cooled to in order to achieve a relative humidity
tropical cyclone with winds of 74 miles (119 kilometers) per hour or greater that is usually accompanied by rain, thunder, and lightning, and that sometimes moves into temperate latitudes
Hurricane
a large, dry area where there is very little rain and few plants:
Desert
a tropical cyclone with the maximum wind of 34 knots or higher
Typhoon
the amount of water vapor in the air
Humidity
prophecy, estimate, or prediction of a future happening or condition
Forecast
a mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth
Atomsphere
precipitation in the form of small balls or lumps usually consisting of concentric layers of clear ice and compact snow.
Hail
- A rain-bearing cloud that also produces lightning
Thunderstorm
a visible mass of particles of condensed vapor (such as water or ice) suspended in the atmosphere of a planet (such as the earth) or moon.
Cloud
any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and falls back to the earth.
Precipitation
a period of abnormally dry weather sufficiently prolonged for the lack of water to cause serious hydrologic imbalance in the affected area.”
Drought
a weather system that is the boundary separating two different types of air
Front
the science dealing with the atmosphere and its phenomena, including both weather and climate.
Meteorologhy
the temperature at which a liquid becomes a solid at normal atmospheric pressure
Freezing point
A violently rotating column of air touching the ground, usually attached to the base of a thunderstorm.
Tornado
