Q

Socrates metaphor for soul:

A

Socrates compares the soul to a two horse chariot.

One of the horses is represents a person’s appetite, and is stubborn, but must be controlled.

The other represents spiritedness, and is noble.

The spiritedness horse can be controlled by reason, to help control the stubborn horse.

If a person doesn’t realize how reason can be used by spiritedness in order to rein desire, then that person will be controlled by the stubborn horse.
