What are the factors for the weakening of the colonial rule?
-the defeat of the colonial forces in WW2 accelerated the demand for decolonization
-After the Japanese surrender, people in many places saw this as their chance to rise up against their colonial masters
-India gained independence in 1947
-Nationalists in Indochina and Indonesia rose up against their colonial masters
-News of these struggles encouraged the people in Singapore and Malaya
