Advance and retire: explain
Gentlemen takes ladies left hand in his right. Both advance to meet the opposite couple (2 bars) then retire back to place (2 bars). Repeat the movement
Half right and left: explain
Ladies exchange places side stepping to the left, passing each other face to face, ending with two short threes (4 bars). Gentlemen then exchange places but side step to the right, passing each other face to face, ending with two short threes (4 bars)
Dance with opposite: explain
Each gentlemen and opposite lady take right hands. Both side step to gentlemen’s left ending with two short threes (4 bars); side step back to place, ending with two short threes (4 bars)
Dance around: explain
Gentlemen takes own partners hands. Both dance a complete circle around opposite couple (8 bars) finishing to face in the opposite direction with a different couple. Repeat all 4 movements with the next and every succeeding couple until the music stops. Couples dancing opposite each other are constantly varying
