Q

What are our different types of muscles?

A

• Bicep - The muscle at the top front of your arm
• Tricep - The muscle behind the bicep at the top back of your arm
(Biceps and triceps are an antagonistic pair - they work together to contract and stretch)
• Quadriceps - The muscle at the top front of your leg, above your knee
• Hamstring - The muscle behind your quadriceps at the top back of your leg
• Gastrocnemius - The muscle at the bottom back of your leg, below the hamstring
• Deltoid - The muscle on the back, behind your shoulders

Q

What are the three parts of a warm up?

A
  1. Pulse raiser - this is an activity that increases your HR such as high knees and skipping
  2. Stretches - we stretch our muscles to stop them getting injured. For example, we do the lunge to stretch the gastrocnemius
  3. Skills practice - a practice linked to what we are doing (e.g. passing practice in Netball)

Q

How does stretching our muscles help to reduce the chance of injury?

A

It reduces the chance of pulling a muscle because they’ve already been stretched out making them stronger, healthier and more flexible. Without stretching, the muscles would be weak and unable to extend all the way
