Q
Collecting a sample of pure water method
A
- pour sample of salt water into a conical flask with a condenser attached to it
- heat the salt water with a bunsen burner
- Water has a boiling point of 100 degrees, which is lower than the boiling point of the salt
- The water will boil and evaporate before the salt does, into steam
- The steam then goes through the condenser where it cools and condenses into a liquid which is the pure water
- the salt remains in the conical flask
- to check if water is pure, heat it again and see if it boils at 100 degrees, as it is the boiling point of water
2
Q
difference between pure water and potable water
A
Potable water is water that is safe to drink for humans and contains minerals
Pure water has no mineral salts in it and is purely just H2O
3
Q
Why does water obtained by distillation not need to be sterilised and is safe to drink
A
Because it is pure and only contains H2O molecules
4
Q
How is fresh water sterilised
A
Using chlorine
Using ozone
Using UV light
5
Q
pH of fresh water
