What are riparian rights?
Riparian rights are associated with land abutting a flowing water way, such as the banks of a river or stream.
‘r is for river’
What are littoral rights?
Littoral rights are associated with land that abuts nonflowing water, such as the ocean, ponds, and lakes.
‘l is for lake’
What is accretion?
Accretion is the process of land build-up from water-borne rock, sand, and soil.
Remember - land building up, ‘land acc-umulating’
What is alluvion?
Alluvion is the new deposits of land caused by accretion.
Remember - alluvion - l for ‘land’, new land
What is erosion?
Erosion is the gradual loss of land due to natural forces.
What is reliction?
Reliction is the gradual receding of water, uncovering additional land.
Remember - reliction - ‘receding hair line’, uncovering the bald scalp (land)
