Waves Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is the angle of reflection?
The angle between the reflected Ray and the normal.
What does density mean?
The ratio of mass to volume. It is usually measured in grams per cubic centimetre or grams per cubic decimetre
What is diffuse scattering?
When light is reflected off a surface in all direction.
What is Dispersion?
Spreading out the different wavelengths of light, caused by refraction of light as it passes through a prism.
What is frequency?
The number of waves produced each second .
What is the unit for frequency?
The unit of frequency is hertz, Hz
What is the incident ray?
Light ray moving towards a surface or a boundary.
What is the law of reflection?
The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection.
What is the lens used for?
A transparent tool that can change the direction of a ray of light.
What is photo sensitive material?
Substance that changes in some way when it absorb light, (for example leading to a chemical or electrical change).
What does a ray diagram represent?
Diagram the represents the direction and angle of travel of light.
What is the reflected ray?
Light ray leaving a surface.
What is the propose of a retina?
The light sensitive area on the back of the eye. Light must be focussed on the retina in order to see clearly.
What is a spectrum?
A series of similar waves arranged in order of wavelength or frequency.
Specular reflection
Reflection in which light traveling towards a surface in one direction is all reflected in a single direction.
Transverse
At 90 degrees ,in traverse waves, the vibrations are at 90 degrees to the direction in which the waves travel
Vacuum
A volume that contains no matter
What is the angle of incidence?
Angle between the normal and the incident ray.
What are radio waves?
Low frequency electromagnetic radiation used to transmit information such as television and radio programmes.
