Weber - class
How class, status and party determine an individuals life chances rather than just their economic status or capacity to own capitol.
Goldthorpe - class
Identified class differences which effected and individuals political beliefs, social connections and more.
Evidence = the old boys network, in 2016 they found that 2/3rds of the UK’s judges had come from a small selection of private schools.
Lockwood - class
One class difference between the lower and upper classes, is that the upper and middle classes have a better market position, high status and better job security.
Evidence = managers are the position with the highest potential for promotion and benefits, ADP research institute.
A03 - class
Focusses on he individual and their situation and ignores the roles of capitalism as a driving factor for class inequality.
Barren and Norris - gender
Women are placed into the duel labour market where they are prevented from succeeding in chosen fields, heavily linked to vertical segregation.
Evidence = less than a third of the UK’s top jobs are held by women. 2024.
Lenski and Weber
Unequal access to structures or resources creates and maintains gender inequality.
Evidence = women are waiting up to 110 weeks for a gynaecology appointment in the UK last year.
A03 - Gender
Doesn’t explain why women are marginalised in the first place, whereas feminists would suggest socialisation plays a large role in creating gender inequality.
Fails to explain inequalities in the same sector too, eg the gender pay gap.
Barren and Norris - ethnicity
EMG’S are forced into the secondary labour market.
Evidence = the black ethnic pay gap is around 75 for full time workers.
Parkin - ethnicity
Social closure, exclude ethnic minority groups.
Evidence = the creation of the The Discrimination Law and Equality Act of 2010.
