Week #1 Flashcards
(38 cards)
What are three functions of the channels?
Three functions of the channels are:
- Transporting qi & blood and regulating yin & yang
- Resisting pathogens and reflecting signs & symptoms
- Transmitting needling sensation & regulating deficiency and excess conditions
What channel arises from a specific point located below the below or knee and separate from the regular channel?
Luo channels
What channels are possibly even deeper than the Jing Mai (Regular Channels)
Extraordinary Channels
What channels do not distribute interiorly, only superficially at the skin. They have no starting point or terminating points, no directional flow?
Cutaneous regions
What channels start on the extremities (hands or feet) and travel inward toward the trunk. They cover broad areas and “knot” at the joints and large muscles?
Tendino-muscular Channels
What channels separate from the channels above or at the elbow or knee joints, enter the chest and abdomen, emerge from the body cavity (usually at the head or neck) converge with the Yang channel of the pair (at the head). This channel has no points.
Divergent Channels
Which channels run vertically, bilaterally, and symmetrically distributed relatively deep within the body, have internal and external pathways?
Regular channels
Which channels act as a link between paired yin and yang channels?
Luo
Which channels are considered reservoirs of Qi, including the Ren and the Du?
Extraordinary vessels
The Ren is called the Sea of _____ and the Du is called the Sea of ______
Ren = Sea of Yin
Du - Sea of Yang
Which channels are the external branches of the Regular channels and reinforce the connection between joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc, and maintain articulation?
Tendino-muscular
Which channels are the most external portion of the Regular channels, circulate qui and blood, nourish the skin/pores and protect the body from “evil qi”?
Cutaneous regions
Which are the branches of the Regular channels that reinformce the connection among Zang Fu organs?
Divergent Channels
How many regular channels?
12
How many Luo channels?
15/16
How many cutaneous regions?
12
How many divergent channels?
12
How many tendino-muscular channels?

How many extraordinary channels?
8
Luo Channels versus Divergent Channels
of channels - L 15/16 D - 12
Location: L - Superficial D - Deeper
Elbows & Knees: L - below, D - above
Points: L - one Luo connecting point in regular channel, D - No points
What are the 3 yin arm channels?
LU, PC, HT
Hand Tai Yin - Anterior, medial - LU
Hand Jue Yin - Center, Medial - PC
Hand Shao Yin - Posterior, Medial - HT
What direction does the 3 yin arm channels move?
Chest to Fingers
What are the three yang arm channels?
LI, SJ, SI
- Hand Yang Ming - anterior, lateral - LI
- Hand Shao Yang - middle, lateral, SJ
- Hand Tai Yang - posterior, lateral, SI
What direction does the hand yang channels move?
Finger to face
