When was the onset of the Great Depression?

What did the Great Depression bring?
Unemployment and poverty to millions.
What was the “Roaring 20’s” a time of?
Considerable prosperity, particularly in Europe and North America .

Over 8 million soldiers and sailors and a similar number of civilians.

After peace was declared after the Great War, what was the world hit by?

What did the French want after WWI?
Revenge and compensation for the damage done to their country.
What did Clemenceau want to do to Germany?
Weaken them to such an extent that it would never be able to take up arms again.
What did president Wilson want?
To achieve lasting peace with a treaty that punished Germany, but not so harshly.
What did Wilson put forward?
A “Fourteen Point Plan” which he believed would serve as the basis for lasting world peace.
What was Lloyd George influenced by?
The desire of the British public to see that Germany was punished as harshly as possible, but was also concerned that a severely weakened Germany might enable France, Britain’s old rival, to dominate Europe.
Where and when was the treaty of Versailles signed?
The Hall of Mirrors, inside the Chateau de Versailles on the 28 June 1919.
What issues did the treaty of Versailles address?
Territorial, military and financial issues.
Was Germany allowed to attend the Paris Peace Conference?
No not until the terms of the treaty had been agreed on.
Why did Germany sign the treaty when many German people had been opposed to the terms?
German representatives knew that if they didn’t sign it, the Allies would invade Germany and Germany would be powerless to stop them.
What were Germany’s territorial terms of the treaty of Versailles?
Germany had to surrender much of its territory and all of its overseas colonies.
Who was the former German New Guinea given to?
Australia
What happened to the Austro-Hungarian Empire?
It was replaced by new states including Czechoslovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Which former ally was Germany prohibited to unite with?
Austria
