Week 1 (Back Muscles) Flashcards
(42 cards)
Latissimus Dorsi:
attachments function innervation
Medial attachment: Inserts inferiorly at the thoracolumbar fascia from T7 to L5
Lateral attachment: Travels superiorly and laterally and inserts in intertubercular sulcus
Function: internally/medially rotates the arm, extend the arm, and adduct the arm
Innervation: thoracodorsal nerve
Trapezius
location
T12 spinous process and travels up to the external occipital protuberance at the back of the skull
Inferior trapezius:
location function
- T12 to C7 and goes out to the spine of the scapula
- Depresses scapula
Middle trapezius
location function
acromion to the superior nuchal line
retracts scapula
Superior trapezius
location function
lateral ⅓ of clavicle to the external occipital protuberance
elevate scapula
Trapezius
innervation
accessory nerve and the transverse cervical artery
Rhomboid Major
location function innervation
under spine of scapula
retract scapula
dorsal scapular nerve bundle
Rhomboid minor
location function innervation
over spine of scapula
retreact scapula
dorsal scapular nerve bundle
Levator scapulae
attachments function innervation
medial attachment: superior border of scapula, attaches to the transverse processes of C1 to C4
elevates scapula
dorsal scapular nerve bundle
deltoid
attachments function innervation
Attachments:
Medial- acromion, spine of scapula, lateral 1/3 of clavicle
Lateral- deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Functions:
Anterior: flexes arm
Lateral: abduct arm
Posterior: extend arm backwards
Innervation
axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral artery
Borders of the quadrangular space
long head of triceps, lateral head of triceps, teres major and teres minor
Occipital artery and Greater Occipital Nerve
artery is more lateral than nerve
Triangle of Auscultation
Bordered by:
superior border of LD
lateral border of trapezius
medial border of scapula
Lumbar triangle
bordered by external oblique, iliac crest and LD
Serratus Posterior Superior

Splenius muscles
function innervation
unilateral: laterally flexes and rotates head or neck to same side
bilateral: extends head and neck
innervation: posterior/dorsal rami of middle cervical nerves
Splenius capitis
attachments

function: extension of back and side bend to one side
innervation: dorsal/posterior rami of lower cervical nerves
Transversospinalis muscles
where are they?
attachment
deep to the erector spinae muscles
attach from transverse processes to spinous processes
semispinalis capitis
attachment
function
innervation
Inferior attachment: TP C7-T6/T7, AP C4-C6
Superior attachment: between superior and inferior nuchal lines of occipital bone medially
Action:
