- Storming stage
- Norming stage
- Performing stage
- Adjourning stage
Discuss common behaviors in the FORMING stage:
1 – FORMING (PRE-AFFILIATION)
Apprehension to the group
“Testing” behavior may be observed from participants // provocative
All communications are directed towards the leader // members seek the leader to lead
Discuss common behaviors in the STORMING stage:
2 – STORMING (POWER/CONTROL)
Concerns shift to matters of autonomy (self-government/power/control)

Conflicts arise between subgroups // members may become disenchanted with group
Members might team up to express anger towards the leader/authority figure

4 – PERFORMING (DIFFERENTIATION)
The group begins to function on its own
No longer depends on the facilitator as much; intervening as needed
Members feel secure in their role and may even spend time together outside of group
Interest in “hanging” outside of meeting with the group members begins
Discuss common behaviors in the ADJOURNING stage:
5 – ADJOURNING (SEPARATION)
Group members prepare to separate from the group, its members, and the facilitator
Some regressive behaviors may occur
Anxiety and anger are common EX: Starts using drugs again
Co-dependency with the facilitator may begin to occur // apprehension
