Week 13 Flashcards
(4 cards)
Agriculture – Environmental, Economic, and Social Impacts
Environmental: Soil erosion, water use, pesticide runoff, biodiversity loss.
Economic: Supports livelihoods and global trade.
Social: Food access, rural jobs, labor rights, cultural practices.
Deforestation
Clearing forests (often for agriculture or livestock) leads to biodiversity loss, carbon emissions, and disrupted water cycles—major driver of climate change.
Agriculture and Sustainability
Sustainable agriculture protects ecosystems, supports farmers, and meets future food needs. Practices include crop rotation, soil health, reduced inputs, and biodiversity.
Food Insecurity and Sovereignty
Food insecurity: Lack of reliable access to sufficient, nutritious food.
Food sovereignty: Right of people to control their own food systems, prioritize local, culturally appropriate, and ecologically sound food production.
