- is it current
- has the source been cited by others
- has it been peer reviewed
- is it buy a trusted author
- is the publisher reputable

- unis are usually reputable
- some published works are trustworthy, most are not
- be wary of open source journals
- be sceptical of websites
If the journal is listed with Thomson reuters, is that good?
Yes it means its been peer reviewed and accepted via them
What does it mean to be peered review
- are reviewers names provided
-Is there an editorial board
-are authors charged a publication fee

- peer review does not guarantee reputable journal
- is the author respected in their field
- does the author have a prior history of questionable practices
- if the author affiliated with a reputable institution
What are 3 tips for judging a sources credibility
- has it listed sources that they have used
- be suspicious of any source that does not list THEIR SOURCES
- claims cannot be verified

- watch for self citations
- has the source been cited by others (not necessary for recent publications)
- have the citations come from biased sources (like blogs, media, cult etc)
