A delicate, lacelike membrane covering the central nervous system.
Arachnoid
Spontaneous; the part of the nervous system concerned with reflex control of bodily functions.
Autonomic
The liquid that circulates within the meninges of the spinal cord and ventricles and meninges of the brain.
Cerebrospinal Fluid
The skull; the eight bones of the head enclosing the brain; generally applied to the 28 bones of the head and face
Cranium
A mass of nerve tissue that receives and sends out nerve impulses
Ganglion
Enlarged portion of the spinal cord; the lower portion of the brainstem
Medulla oblongata
The membranes covering the brain and spinal cord
Meninges
Being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity
Addiction
Feeling of fear or agitation caused by an event or activity that makes you nervous or worrisome
Anxiety
A mental health condition that causes xterms mood swings that include emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression)
Bipolar disorders
A disorder in which the nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.
Epilepsy
Sensations that appear to real but are created within the mind
Hallucinations
A long lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts and/or behaviors and feels the urge to repeat over and over
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
A sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause.
Panic attacks
A strong, irrational fear of something that poses little or no real danger
Phobias
A mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Part of the nervous system that increases heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and pupil size and causes blood vessels to narrow and deceases digestive juices.
Sympathetic nervous system
A serious mental disorder is which people interpret reality abnormally
Schizophrenia
A negative stereotype in which someone views you in a negative way because of distinguishing characteristics or personal traits that are thought to be or are a disadvantage
Stigma
Refers to the nerves that receive and transmit stimuli from the sense organs
Sensory neurons
Pertaining to the sense of smell
Olfactory
Beneath the dura mater, the space between the arachnoid and the dura mater
Subdural
A portion of the brainstem connecting the medulla oblongata and cerebellum with upper portions of the brain
Pons
An X-ray examination of the spinal cord following an injection of a radiopaque material
