Week 5 Flashcards
(10 cards)
Parallelism
And, or, neither, nor, not only/but also both, rather, not X, but Y, from X to Y = markers
Rates and Work Problems
Use D/W = R * T
Remember T can be expressed as (W/R)
When given two machines, add their rates and resolve
Age Problems
Write the problem exactly as stated.
If John is 3 years older than Billy
John = 3 + Billy
and in 6 years Billy will be 1/3 the age of John
( B+6 ) = ( 1/3 )( John + 6 )
Use both equations to solve.
Argument Structure
C P X B When identifying the role of each statement, write the combo of letters, then look for the answer that follows the combo.
Identifying assumptions
P = C (what must be true?)
The assumption is going to state some part of P tie it with some part of C. The biggest trap is to throw in totally different solutions, points that could relate but…no.
Evaluating Assumptions
EV and look for 2 ways. If yes/no it will strengthen/weaken. All the other answer options either both strengthened or both weakened.
Flaw of Assumption
FA and identify assumption and find the error in the logic
Algebra
When you square a variable/square root…, remember that variable can be a positive or a negative.
(x-1)^2 = 400
Algebra
special products
Algebra: System of Inequalities?
Add ‘em
