Q

Neurodiverse clients raise challenges in relation to consent. Discuss

A

Some of the concepts may be abstract and concrete direct language, or additional time for processing may need to be considered.

Verbal confirmation may not indicate understanding or comprehension.
Check for understanding through open ended questions / or consider written consent.

Power dynamics/ differences in neurodiversity between client and therapist may create a power structure that makes one more compliant. They may think they’re ‘supposed to’ agree.
