week6. Questionnaire designs and psychometrics Flashcards
(13 cards)
what are psychometric tests
A psychometric test or psychometric assessment is an evaluation of an individual’s cognitive skills and personality traits.
what are the different response types a researcher can get from a participant in a questionnaire
free response, Likert, visual analogue scale, categorical (yes or no), checklists, multiple choice
what is anonymity
when you keep the participant anonymous
what is good about anonymity
the participant is more like to be truthful
what are the different types of reliability
inter-observer reliability, alternate forms reliability
what is alternate forms reliability
Alternate-form reliability is the consistency of test results between two different – but equivalent – forms of a test.
what is inter-observer reliability
Inter-rater reliability (also called inter-observer reliability) measures the degree of agreement between different people observing or assessing the same thing.
what are the different types of validity
content validity, criterion validity, discriminant validity, construct validity, face validity
what is content validity
make sure what is being measured is actually testing the hypothesis (someones IQ doesn’t measure their athletic ability)
what is criterion validity
evaluates how accurately a test measures the outcome it was designed to measure.
what is discriminant validity
Discriminant validity is a subtype of construct validity. In other words, it shows you how well a test measures the concept it was designed to measure.
what is construct validity
Construct validity concerns the extent to which your test or measure accurately assesses what it’s supposed to.
what is face validity
the degree to which a procedure, especially a psychological test or assessment, appears effective in terms of its stated aims.
