As a result, of the crippling amount of money needed to be paid in reparations Germany implemented a new currency named the Rentenmark in November 1923
This was positive for Germany as they gained more confidence, in particular during August 1924 the Reichsmark was introduced
Germany gained even more confidence during the same year as 900 m marks rose to m 4,900 marks at the end of 1962
Failures of the German Currency?
People with savings lost out on the old currency as it was devalued, and inflation remained an issue
If the strategy failed Germany would have struggled to fulfill its commitments to back the currency
Successes of the Reparations Issue?
The financial hardship of the German economy led to Stresemann convincing the Allies that Germany would as part of the Dawes Plan pay money annually that they could afford to, and German industry would be leant from the American banks 800 million marks to support them
Basically, Germany leaned money from America, then they were able to flourish financially and eventually pay back the reparations to the Allies, who must pay back $2.6 billion in war debts to America
The Dawes Plan helped Germany because they were able to flourish as an economy and still pay back reparations to the Allies
Failures of the Reparations Issue?
The loans from America just increased Germany’s
Debts
They had to print more money, which
Reduced its value
Successes of the Locaron Pact?
In order for Germany to be considered a nation that could be part of the League of Nations they and get troops taken away from the Rhineland by the French, and they must sustain the 1919 border with France and Belgium
Eventually, in October 1925 Stresemann signed the Locarno Pact with Britain, France, Italy, and Belgium
Failures of the Locaron Pact?
No occupation, allowed Germany to secretly
Build up their military
It created tension among German people because the government was working with the people that ruined them
Many Germans didn’t agree with the new border
Successes of the League of Nations?
