1 Defense or Wei Level

A

*Most superficial
*Signs and symptoms: fever, mild aversion to cold, slight chills, absence of or only slightly sweating, headache, cough, sore throat, thirst, a tongue body that is slightly red on the tip or edges, and a floating rapid pulse
*Nose/throat muscles
*Wind cold –> wind heat

A

*Pathogen has gotten deeper but not too deep
* High fever, NO aversion to cold, thirst, sweat, forceful rapid pulse, 102F+
*Similar to Sang Han Lun’s Yang Ming Channel Syndrome

3 Constructive or Ying Level

A

*Ying Qi flows deeper than Wei Qi in channels and blood vessels to nourish body
*Fever that is worse at night (body moves qi to deeper yang levels), dryness of mouth, absence of thirst, faint skin eruptions (petechiae) or maculae, irritability, insomnia, deep red tongue body with little or no coating, thin rapid pulse
*Shakes shen of heart
*Chicken pox
*Direct strike to Yang Ming
*Stomach flu=skips wei level

4 Blood or Xue Level

A

*Deepest and last level of Wen Bing
*High fever, skin that is hot to touch, skin eruptions of purple or black color, epistaxis (vomiting blood), hemoptysis, bloody stool, manic behavior, deep red tongue body without coating, thin rapid pulse
*Kaposis sarcomea
*Ebola
*Can only provide comfort not cure
*HIV
