A traditional storyteller that use songs, poems, and words.

A small state that took over during Ghana’s weak moments, they mainly had farmers and maintained by the Trans-Saharan trade.

The first trading empire in West Africa which became a n important crossland for trade. It traded iron products, animal products, salt, and gold. 400 ce - 1200 ad.
Songhai Empire
The area that took control of Timbuktu and broke away from the Mongolian empire.
Berber
People that carried goods across the Sahara. (Traders)
Mansa Musa
A Muslim African leader that supported Muslim artists and scholars.
Ibn Battuta
A young Arabian lawyer from Morocco who wanted to see the “Muslim world.” He found out that Africans were following Islam for centuries, which amazed him.
Trans Saharan Caravan Trade
A set of trade routs that traveled over the sahara desert. The romans introduced the central Asian camel. The berbers later formed caravans to trade materials easily.
Djenne
A city that emerged as the largest trading center in West Africa in 250 BCE.
Timbuktu
A West-African trading city that is far inland.
