How is extravasating managed?

A

1) stop infusion
2) do not remove cannula until attempt to aspirate the area has been made (through the cannula) to remove as much of the drug as possible
3) give corticosteroids (hydrocortisone or dexamethasone) either locally via sub cut or by IV distal to the site
4) analgesics and antihistamines may be required for symptom relief

What are the cautionary labels for metronidazole?

A

1) space doses evenly throughout the day. Do not stop taking until course is finished or told to stop
2) take with or just after food or a meal
3) take with a full glass of water
4) swallow medicine whole. Do not chew or crush
5) do not drink alcohol
