When was it created?
Open reach was created in 2006 to maintain and develop the phone and broadband network and to sell these services to communication providers.
Treating customers equally?
Open reach provides the same service at the same price to all it’s customers in order to be fair. This was part of a legally binding list of undertaking that was given to Ofcom who regulates the company in 2005.
When did it become independent?
The company became independent in 2017 when Ofcom released the digital communications review. This was done to make sure digital communications markets continued to work for customers and businesses. As a result Open reach made some voluntary commitments to Ofcom which included making it its own distinct company with it’s own management, purpose and strategy so that it got the individual attention it deserved and as such it became a more customer focused business.
