Whos Related To Whom P23 Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are grouped seperately
Organisms with both plant and animal features, or organisms taht are not plant or animal
Kingdom morena
Single-celled organisms without a true nucleus; DNA is free in the cytoplasm. Have unique rigid cell walls. Includes bacteria and cyanobacteria. Their cell walls are rigid like plant cells. Their cells dont have a true nucleus.
Kingdom protoctista
Single-celled organisms with true nuclei; DNA is inside a nuclear membrane. Includes algae and protozoa, which feed like animals.
Kingdom fungi
Once grouped with plants, now a separate kingdom. Some are single-celled (e.g., yeast); most have complex structures like mushrooms. Made of mycelium and thread-like hyphae with true nuclei. No chlorophyll—feed by digesting food externally and absorbing it.
Plant Kingdom
Made of many cells (often thousands)
Cells are specialized into tissues and systems
Contain chlorophyll and make food through photosynthesis
The animal kingdom
Multicellular with flexible cell membranes (no cell wall)
Cells form tissues, organs, and systems
Move to find food, which is eaten and digested internally
The five kingdoms
Kingdom monera, kingdom protoctista, kingdom fungi, animal kingdom and plant kingdom
Where do kingdom protoctista live
Live in water or moist places.
How many species of kingdom protoctista
Very diverse—over 28,000 species.
Kingdom morena cell wall
Their cell walls are rigid like plant cells
Kingdom morena species
Over 3,000 species known.
Kingdom fungi species
Includes about 75,000 species.
Plant kingdom species
Over 300,000 plant species identified
The animal kingdom species
1.5 million species listed; over 1 million are insects
