Analyse the sequence of Worm’s-eye view shot of the sewage with a paper of car towed and man staring at the paper (5) with context

A

The man realisation of how he is viewed in a money hungry society. that his ‘place’ in society as a corrupt government he is viewed as garbage and dumb.Creates anger from audience as we come to understand his need for revenge throughout the movie

Camera slowly pans out from the man paying to others paying. Demonstrates the extent of corruption, how common this façade is and overused yet still so prevalent. We can even see a third person blur out a third person, further emphasizes the rules the working class are forced to comply to

This is a criticism towards the misfortunes that the working class are disillusioned to and powerless are to stop it.

Again, the recurring theme of the underestimation of the lower class

Context: Cinematic control by the government, the government is meant to protect society but instead is tool towards corruption.

analyse how non diegetic parallel sound is used to build tense atmosphere with context in Pasternak

A

D,A-When the non-diegetic shrill sound effect starts, we see the airhostess in the back. This strikes an intrigue for the audience and creates a twinge of impending doom to foreshadow something bad will happen. A non-diegetic shrill sound effect is used as audible punctuation alongside a reaction shot to create discomfort as it becomes apparent that something discomforting is happening

The chord strikes again, and we can see her more clearly as she comes closer to the screen.

This in on cue with each person having a realisation of who Pasternak and as this at the same time, we question the hostess’s motives as she has a concerned expression.

When the third chord strikes non-diegetic complied score happens a sudden realisation to the audience that most is related.

This is on cue with the thought processes for the audience- a trigger that everything is wrong. This hits the audience with a wave of realisation build atmosphere in horror film.

A-Argentina is known for having a corrupted country, politically and socially. Pasternak highlights unresolved issues that turn into mortality due to the undermining for the unfortunate.

patriarchy - she’s wearing a waitress outfit, he’s wearing buisness attire
the restaurant is split into two sections- the waitress and the chef, both quite low working class vs a guy who’s running for president . political corruption juxtaposition between the two
man dominant - represented by ordering and she takes the orders as a waitress (submissive stereotype
-restaurant is unclean , grimy

Q

describe the political context in the film industry

A

• This can be seen as an incredibly brave thing to do as the film industry is heavily subsidised by the government: it is rare to see a filmmaker, actor, producer or film critic say anything that goes against the government in public. Argentineans live in an increasingly authoritarian regime that’s been in power for more than a decade and has created a rather obedient culture amongst filmmakers.

Q

describe political corruption in Argentina and link to the movie

A

• The film is concerned with the political corruption and the privilege that the wealthy have
• The Financial Times noted in 2013 that Argentina corruption is widely considered to be
‘engrained’ and ‘there is the sense that public officials are untouchable.’
• Some have seen this as a metaphor for the Argentinian Government which has a reputation for trading money for silence and a long history of corruption; for example a prosecutor about to indict President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner for protecting mass-murdering criminals died under suspicious circumstances the very day he was about to present his accusations to the parliament
