What is the RTS/CTS protocol
Request to Send / Clear to Send
An extension protocol that if required is used after medium is found to be idle.
It will RTS request message sent, waits a CTS

If a CTS is received, sending station proceeds
Otherwise wait a random amount of time before trying again
What is ACK
A check if a frame or packet has been received correctly
If an ACK is not received it will resend the packet
How can you protect against threats
- Turn off broadcasting for SSID cannot be seen
- Use WiFi Protected Access (WPA3), provides encryption, keys and user authentication
- Create a whitelist of allowed MAC addresses
