Q

embracing emergence

A

start with a system of locally interacting elements according to simple rules that spontaneously give rise to emergent propertie

Q

Strong ALife (ARITIFICIAL LIFE PHYLOSOPHY)

A

life is not just restricted to a carbon-based chemical
process. Life can be ‘created’ in silico

Q

State Transition Rules

A

The states of an automaton change over time in discrete timesteps

The state of each cell is modified in parallel at each timestep according to the state transition rules (STR)

These determine the new states of each of the cells in the next timestep from the states of that cells neighbours

Q

Important properties of a CA:

A

‒ Localism
o States are updated based on the properties of the neighbourhood
‒ Parallelism
o The state of every cell is updated in parallel
‒ Homogeneity
o The same set of rules is applied across the automaton

Q

Cellular Automata Models for Enzyme Kinetics

A

Enzyme reactions are dynamic, and even with frequent experiments, the dynamic process cannot fully be seen
